What Is Puerh Tea?

What's Puerh Tea?

Pu-erh tea(literally “Pu'er cha”). Pu erh tea is known as “black tea(hei cha)” in China. Puer tea can be divided into raw and ripe pu-erh tea. Raw pu-erh tea is naturally fermented, while ripe pu-erh tea is artificially ripened. "The more it ages, the more fragrant it becomes" is recognized as the biggest feature of Puerh tea that distinguishes it from other teas. Pu erh cha is an "importable antique", unlike other teas that are more valuable when new. Puer tea is more valuable because of its "oldness" and tends to gradually appreciate over time.

In addition, Puerh tea can also be divided into cake tea, brick tea, Tuo tea, dragon pearl, and other shapes according to their different appearance.

Puer tea not only has a unique taste and aroma, but also contains rich nutrients such as tea polyphenols and antioxidants. It has many health benefits such as weight loss, lowering blood lipids, lowering blood pressure, and anti-fatigue.

The difference between raw and ripe Puerh tea

1. Tea-making process

Raw pu erh cha: It has not been artificially fermented, and retains the natural original flavor and active ingredients of tea.

Ripe pu erh cha: After pile fermentation, the polyphenols in the tea are transformed to form a unique aged aroma.

Ripe puerh tea: The soup color is chestnut red or dark red, slightly translucent, with a variety of aromas such as chenxiang and camphor, and the taste is sweet, smooth, mellow and refreshing.

3. Pu Er Cha Benefits

Raw pu erh tea: It has the effects of clearing heat and relieving summer heat, gastrointestinal digestion, refreshing and protecting the liver, but it is not suitable for insomniacs, colds and fevers, pregnant women, and cold stomachs.

Ripe pu erh tea: It has multiple effects such as assisting in lowering blood lipids, lowering blood pressure, preventing constipation, and nourishing the stomach, which is suitable for most people.

Due to the rapid popularity of Pu-erh tea, the scientific community is also increasingly interested in its potential benefits. For example, an animal study showed that drinking Pu'er cha daily can aid weight loss and help lower bad cholesterol (LDL).

To enjoy these properties, we recommend the 2021 Yunnan gushu raw puerh tea, which has been aged for 3 years. It comes from Yunnan, China, and has a floral orchid nectar aroma, a smooth and silky taste, and a long aftertaste.
